Attendees at our 2008 Online Marketing Workshop not only enjoyed the beautiful setting at the historic Camelback Inn in Scottsdale Arizona, but also inspiring keynote presentations, practical and tactical concurrent sessions, and interactive roundtable discussions. Day 1 kicked off with Author of Chief Customer Office Jeanne Bliss who discussed in detail how organizations need to create synergy between their silos and channels to become a truly customer focused retailer. Jeanne was followed by Forrester VP and Shop.org Board of Directors Member Carrie Johnson who shared the results of the latest State of Retailing online report.

In the afternoon, the group broke into two tracks: Track 1 focused on customer focused search and affiliate trends and included such topics as The Evolving Search Marketplace, The Forgotten Customer in Affiliate Marketing, and Optimizing Customer Experience through Paid and Organic Search. Track 2 helped our retailer audience identify their most profitable customers and generate customer loyalty and covered Top 10 Customer Trends in Online and Multi-Channel Marketing, Building an Email Program Your Customers Will Love, and Targeting the Inner Circle with Customer-Centric Strategies. Each track featured speakers from our retailer and associate member communities who presented tactical and practical steps for success, and concluded with a series of roundtables that allowed our audience to dig deeper into specific topics. We also had a great time at our reception and dinner at The Mummy Mountain cooking out and networking under the stars.

Day 2 started with Chairman and CEO of Overstock.com Patrick Byrne discussing how he helped change the culture of Overstock to be focused on the customer which has led directly to great success across his business operations. Patrick also made himself available to answer questions from the audience about all aspects of eCommerce and multi-channel marketing. The next session featured Former SVP and CMO of eBay and Shop.org Board of Directors member Gary Briggs leading an all-star panel that discussed creating a customer-centric environment in a Web 2.0 world where the customer has more power and influence. Our Marketing Workshop concluded with favorite Shop.org speaker Mitch Joel leading a two-hour Web 2.0 University that provided specific steps across the Web 2.0 landscape to help retailers monitor their customers, build brand loyalty, and ultimately become stronger marketers. Our Web 2.0 University was a huge success and we hope to emulate this type of content at future events. As always, the Marketing Workshop was a great blend of learning and networking in a fun, relaxed environment.
