Ray M. Greenly Scholarship Overview

Scholarship Objectives
The Scholarship Fund is named in honor of Ray M. Greenly, a long-time member of the Shop.org team, who passed away in 2005. Ray was instrumental in Shop.org research efforts. Additionally, he was known among members and Shop.org research partners for his passion for the online retail industry and for encouraging careers in the industry. The objectives of the scholarship, therefore are:

  • Help Shop.org establish relationships with Universities that could be potential research partners
  • Encourage interest among college students in e-commerce and online retail as a career

How Scholarships are Awarded
Ray M. Greenly Scholarships are awarded to universities, who select scholarship recipients based on the undergraduate scholarship tuition described below.

If you are a student interested in receiving a scholarship, please contact a faculty member at your university and provide them with the University criteria listed below.

Universities interested in applying for a scholarship should send a letter signed by a University official outlining how it meets the university criteria and its commitment to comply with the student criteria.  We've posted a sample letter from the University of Arizona.

Criteria for Universities to Receive Scholarship Funds

  • Must be a potential research partner for Shop.org
  • Must be willing to comply with the student criteria
  • Must award scholarships to students within one month of receiving funds, and within two months, report back to Shop.org background (profile of who was chosen and their merits) on the selected students
  • Universities must have a formal online retail or e-commerce curriculum
  • Universities should have a track record of its students being hired into the online retail industry
  • Scholarship selection must be made by a university selection committee through in-person interviews intended to assess the individual's motivation, character, ability, interest in online retail or e-commerce and potential

Criteria for Undergraduate Students to Receive Tuition Scholarships

  • The scholarship should be given to undergraduate students who have earned at least half of the total number of credits needed for graduation
  • The scholarships should be awarded to students who demonstrate a strong interest in e-commerce or online retailing demonstrated through coursework and/or work experience
  • The student should show high levels of prior academic performance (minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale)
  • Students should receive recommendations from instructors
  • Students should demonstrate leadership in the community or on campus
